Considered a leader, a statesman, and a humanist, William Jefferson Clintons genius exemplifies many characteristics of the Age of Modernism and Pluralism in Western culture. The Age of Modernism and Pluralism is said to be a culmination of the previous two major periods in human history. Modernism has the quest for an authoritatively-rational aesthetics, ethics, and knowledge indicative of the Enlightened Period (PostModernism, 2005), and the higher ideals of respect for peoples rights and liberty brought forth during the Romantic period. He has said that he chose Georgetown for its proximity to the capital of the United States and his potential exposure to political life. Clinton was the only student from Arkansas to be accepted to the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown. This was considerably noteworthy. While attending Georgetown he was elected as the Freshman Class President. He also was a part time volunteer for Senator Fulbright, one of his long time role models. In 1968 he graduated from Georgetown with a bachelors degree in Foreign Service. Upon graduation, Senator Fulbright recommended that Clinton undertake the difficult process of applying for the Rhodes scholarship and the opportunity to attend Oxford University in London, England. He was one of 62 applicants to be accepted into the program. After his tenure at Oxford, Clinton attended Yale University where he received his degree in Law.
